Parade
The GeorgeFest Parade is the perhaps the most attended event of the entire celebration… the firework show gives it a run for its money, though.
Starting at 10AM on Saturday, thousands of residents and visitors flock to Bay Street to watch this event that has steadily grown year after year. In fact, some spectators start staking their claim to pavement and sidewalks as early as 7AM to ensure a good view, or maybe just to stuff their pockets and purses full of the goodies that get sent hurling through the air as floats pass by.
The parade has included entries ranging from camels to horses, motorcycles to firetrucks, historical figures to robots, children to the elderly, and everything in between. There is sure to be a float or group that strikes a fancy into everyone’s heart.
And to ensure the most creative entries, there is a contest that runs alongside the parade. Entries are judged within various categories with the top prize being $200 for the Best of Show.
