What do you get when you mix a little bit of ingenuity and creativity, several teams dressed up in costume, and a couple hundred pounds of oranges? You get the makings of the crowd favorite pastime… The Citrus Squeeze!!!
Each year, this event has drawn in the crowds to watch teams compete to see who can squeeze the most juice out of oranges with any means that they can come up with. The catch is the juicing process cannot include any motors (electric, gas, solar , etc). It has to be total man or woman power to do the juicing.
Judging is based on the most juice that a team can squeeze out of the central bin of oranges. A team consists of 5 members (1 runner and 4 juicers). The teams have 10 minutes to extract what they can. The runner can carry as much as their hands can hold. No buckets or clothing can be used to transport the oranges from the central location to the teams table.
After the times is up, each team must bring it freshly squeezed juice to the central collection bucket to be measured. After measuring has been completed, the judges will add on the bonus inches to declare the year’s Citrus Squeeze Champions. Bonus inches are earned for Best Costume, Most Creative Juicing Process, and Crowd Favorite. 1st place in each category will get 3 inches added to their juiced amount. 2nd will get 2 inches, and 3rd will get 1 inch.
The winning team will not only get bragging rights for a the year, but will also win the coveted Citrus Squeeze Trophy with their name added to the name plate. The trophy will be proudly displayed at the Chamber of Commerce for all to see.
